  • On the way to Sa Pa, stop at a seasonal orchard to taste fresh mountain fruits, and sample locally crafted “happy water” infused with natural flavours.
  • By afternoon, arrive in Sa Pa town and explore its bustling central market, alive with textiles, herbs, and handmade tools from the region’s ethnic minorities. Later, set out on a two-hour trek through the Black H’Mông villages of Sa Xéng and Sáu Chua, wandering past terraced fields, bamboo groves, and mountain streams while meeting families along the way.
  • Return to town by evening and check into your hotel, where cool air and misty peaks set the tone for your stay.

Day 4 The Roof of Indochina: Fansipan Peak & Sky-High Glass Bridge (B) B
  • Rise above the clouds today with two unforgettable highland experiences. Begin at Fansipan Mountain, riding the record-breaking cable car over misty valleys and flower-filled slopes before ascending to the summit at 3,143 meters—the “Roof of Indochina.” Along the way, shrines and pagodas turn the climb into both a spiritual and scenic journey. From the peak, sweeping views stretch across Vietnam, Laos, and China.
  • In the afternoon, test your courage on the Glass Bridge, suspended more than 2,000 meters above sea level. Whether standing still to admire the mountains or adding thrills with ziplining or bungee jumps, it’s a perspective like no other.
  • By evening, return to Sa Pa to relax after a day spent between earth and sky.
  • Overnight in Sa Pa.
Day 5 The Road to Hà Giang: Bắc Hà Market & Hoàng Bay Temple (B) B
  • Travel from Sa Pa into Vietnam’s far north, where culture and spirituality meet on the road to Hà Giang. Begin with a stop at Bắc Hà Market, alive with colour and energy as H’Mông, Tày, Nùng, Dao, and Phù Lá communities gather in traditional dress to trade textiles, produce, livestock, and more. It’s a weekly celebration of highland life, offering a rare chance to witness authentic traditions.
  • In the afternoon, pause at Hoàng Bay Temple on the banks of the Red River, where locals pray to Lord Hoàng Bay for peace and protection. The serene setting offers a moment of reflection before you continue north.

  • Continue to Quản Bạ Heaven Gate, a mountain pass that opens onto sweeping views of mist-shrouded ranges and the legendary Twin Mountains—said in folklore to be the breasts of a fairy.
  • After lunch, journey deeper into the karst plateau to visit the H’Mông King’s Mansion, a fortress-like estate blending French, Chinese, and H’Mông design, once home to the opium lord Vương Chính Đức.
  • By evening, arrive in Đồng Văn, a frontier town where stone houses and lanterns glow against the dramatic karst backdrop. Check into your hotel and enjoy a quiet night at the edge of Vietnam’s northernmost highlands.
  • Overnight in Đồng Văn.
Day 7 Dong Van • Mã Pí Lèng Pass • Nho Quế River • Cao Bằng (B) B
  • Cross from Hà Giang into Cao Bằng today, travelling through landscapes that define northern Vietnam’s wild beauty. Begin with the Mã Pí Lèng Pass, a winding road clinging to cliffs high above the valleys, where endless limestone ridges create one of the most dramatic panoramas in Asia. From there, descend into the canyon and board a private boat on the Nho Quế River, gliding between sheer cliffs reflected in turquoise waters—a serene counterpoint to the morning’s dizzying heights.
  • In the afternoon, continue your journey eastward on a 5.5-hour drive through remote highland scenery, arriving by evening in Cao Bằng City, gateway to the northeast’s natural wonders. Settle in and rest for tomorrow’s adventures.

  • Continue to Phúc Sen Village, where more than 150 families keep alive a thousand-year-old blacksmithing tradition—transforming scrap metal into blades with skill and fire.
  • After lunch, visit Dìa Trên Village, home to the Nùng An people who still practise traditional papermaking, soaking and pressing bark into sheets used for rituals and daily life.
  • By evening, arrive in Trùng Khánh, a peaceful borderland town surrounded by karst peaks, where you’ll rest before tomorrow’s natural marvels.
  • Overnight in Trùng Khánh
Day 9 Bản Giốc Waterfall • Ngườm Ngao Cave • Hà Nội (B) B

Stroll the grounds, ride a boat to the base for a misty thrill, or capture unforgettable photos with a horse against the backdrop of the roaring falls.
  • Afterward, step into the underground world of Ngườm Ngao Cave, a vast system where legends of tigers linger and limestone formations resemble curtains, columns, and mythical beasts. The cool air and shimmering stone chambers offer a meditative balance to the waterfall’s power.
  • In the afternoon, set out on the 6-hour drive back to Hà Nội, watching as mountain peaks fade into rolling farmlands and finally the bustling capital. By evening, check in to your hotel, bringing your northern odyssey full circle
  • Overnight in Hà Nội.

Before you book you should know

Is this trip right for you?

Vietnam is welcoming and easy to travel in, but understanding a few local norms will make your experience smoother, more respectful, and more rewarding.

Customs & Traditions

✅ DO

  • Dress modestly when visiting temples, pagodas, and ancestral houses (covered shoulders and knees).
  • Remove your shoes when entering someone’s home or certain religious spaces.
  • Greet elders first and show respect with calm body language.
  • Ask before taking photos of people, especially in rural areas or religious settings.

❌ DON’T

  • Touch someone’s head, especially children — it’s considered disrespectful.
  • Point your feet at people, altars, or Buddha statues.
  • Raise your voice or show anger in public — calm behaviour is valued.
  • Publicly criticise local customs or compare them negatively to your own.

Money & Payments

✅ DO

  • Carry cash, especially small bills (VND 10,000–100,000) for markets and street food.
  • Check your change after paying — mistakes are usually unintentional.
  • Tip politely for excellent service, though tipping is not mandatory.
  • Use ATMs or exchange counters, not street money changers.

❌ DON’T

  • Expect card payments everywhere — many places are cash-only.
  • Flash large amounts of cash in public.
  • Argue aggressively over small price differences — it’s rarely worth it.
  • Assume prices are fixed at markets; bargaining is normal (and friendly).

Transportation & Taxis

✅ DO

  • Use ride-hailing apps like Grab, Gojek, or Be for transparent pricing.
  • Confirm the price before riding cyclos, boats, or private taxis.
  • Wear a helmet when riding a motorbike — safety matters.
  • Walk confidently across streets — traffic flows around you.

❌ DON’T

  • Get into unmarked taxis or accept unsolicited offers at airports.
  • Assume traffic will stop for pedestrians — it usually won’t.
  • Ride motorbikes without insurance or proper guidance.
  • Rush drivers — patience goes a long way.

Food & Dining

✅ DO

  • Eat where locals eat — busy stalls usually mean fresh food.
  • Try regional specialities — food changes dramatically from north to south.
  • Use communal condiments respectfully (spoons provided).
  • Tell vendors about allergies — many will adjust dishes if possible.

❌ DON’T

  • Stick only to Western food — you’ll miss Vietnam’s best experiences.
  • Be afraid of street food — it’s often cleaner than it looks.
  • Waste food — order small and add more if needed.
  • Assume all dishes are spicy — many aren’t unless you add chilli.

Social Etiquette

✅ DO

  • Smile often — it’s the universal language here.
  • Be flexible — plans may change, and that’s normal.
  • Show appreciation for small gestures and hospitality.
  • Follow your local guide’s advice — they know the context best.

❌ DON’T

  • Touch religious objects casually.
  • Push for quick answers — patience is appreciated.
  • Forget you’re a guest — respect opens doors everywhere.

Final Thought

Vietnam rewards travellers who slow down, observe, and respect daily life.
A little cultural awareness goes a long way — and often leads to the most meaningful moments of the journey.

See What Our Clients Say About Us

I joined the handicraft village tour to scout for a future project, and Earthy Travel impressed me completely. The team’s respect for local communities was evident in every interaction. Watching craftsmen shape bamboo by hand was both humbling and inspiring. Highly recommended for travelers who want depth, not just sightseeing.

Benjamin Carter

Documentary Filmmaker

I’ve done many cultural tours, but this one touched my heart the most. Earthy Travel doesn’t rush you from place to place — they let you slow down, talk to people, and feel the rhythm of village life. The pottery workshop was my favorite moment. Real, authentic, and deeply human.

Chloé Martin

Travel Blogger

I’ve visited many countries for research, but Earthy Travel’s village craft experience in Vietnam was on another level. The time spent weaving with local artisans and listening to their stories felt incredibly genuine. It wasn’t a tour – it was a real cultural exchange. Absolutely unforgettable.

Emma Rodriguez

Cultural Anthropologist

This experience exceeded all academic and personal expectations. Earthy Travel created the perfect bridge between travelers and local artisans. My students and I learned not only about traditional crafts but also about the cultural values behind them. Truly meaningful and beautifully organized.

Sophia Kim

University Professor in Asian Studies

As a designer, I’m always fascinated by how traditional crafts influence modern aesthetics. Earthy Travel’s village tour allowed me to see that connection firsthand. The artisans welcomed us warmly, and the hands-on workshop was both fun and eye-opening. A brilliant way to understand Vietnam’s creative soul
